Microsoft to slow hiring in Windows, Office and Teams divisions

A Microsoft executive vice president said in an email to employees on Thursday that it would slow hiring in its Windows, Office and chat and conferencing software division Teams. Rajesh Jha, executive vice president of the product group, said in an email that all new hires must be approved by him and his leadership team, a Microsoft spokesman said.

The spokeswoman said the divisions had recently expanded and the company wanted to ensure the right hiring in the right sector. The slowdown in hiring is not company-wide, and Microsoft will continue to hire new people as a whole.

“As Microsoft prepares for the new fiscal year, the company will ensure the right resources are aligned with the right opportunities,” the company said in a statement. “Microsoft will continue to grow its workforce over the coming year and will increase its focus on the direction of these resource allocations.” Microsoft’s new fiscal year begins July 1.
