Gmail for Android finally shows the search filters in labels and folders

Search filters are a very useful feature of Gmail for Android, but they are not exactly new: their introduction dates back to September last year; the novelty that concerns them, rather, concerns their appearance even when labels and folders are displayed.

Gmail for Android: news for search filters

In particular, by going to open a label or a predefined folder – such as Specials, Sent and the like) in Gmail for Android, you get a carousel positioned below the search bar. Search filters start from the currently displayed label and allow the user to add more, although this leads to the search interface rather than simply showing a label.

In addition to the label, the other search filters include: From, To, Attachment, Date, Is unread and Exclusive calendar updates. In other words, these are the same filters that are already proposed to the user when he goes to search on Gmail, with the only difference that now on Android they gain a more relevant position and that the first item is represented by the label.

If this novelty is not for you, you can rest assured: there is a Hide Filters function just a tap away (it is not fixed, it reappears only by switching to a new label). The news has already been spotted in Gmail for Android version 2022.05.01, but not yet in the iOS app; the same carousel also appears when viewing folders and labels using the Gmail web client, although in this case, the label filter is missing.
