Dark Mode for Microsoft Word on the Web Is Coming

Microsoft started working on adding dark mode support to its Office suite apps a long time ago. While the company has managed to implement the popular mode in Office apps across multiple platforms, those using the free version on the web are limited to Daylight mode. But that will soon start to change, as Microsoft is about to add a dark mode to Word for the web.

According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap page, Microsoft is currently working on introducing a dark mode to Word for the web. The feature was added to the roadmap page a few days ago and will be fully rolled out this month.

In other words, according to Microsoft, the dark mode of the Word web client should be available to everyone by the end of May, and in the worst-case scenario, it may only start rolling out in early June.

The roadmap page doesn’t mention anything about how users will enable the feature. But for convenience, there should be options to choose between dark and day modes in the settings. Anyway, we’ll know how it works soon.

Dark Mode support in Word will allow users to reduce eye strain when working on Word documents for long periods of time on the computer screen, and it will also be more suitable for use at night. Currently, both Windows and Mac Office suite applications already support dark mode, and Word users on Android systems can also switch to dark mode.
