Chrome continues to be the most responsive browser on macOS

Back in March, Google proudly announced that its Chrome browser was already the fastest browser on macOS, as verified by Apple’s benchmarking tool Speedometer. This tool is used to test browser responsiveness. Today, the company announced more impressive results from the world’s most-used browser: Chrome on the Mac is now 20 percent faster than it was in March.

The news comes from a proud tweet from Chrome’s official Twitter account:

The pursuit of speed has led our work since the launch of #Chrome in 2008. Three months ago we had the top score on Apple’s Speedometer – now Chrome is 20% faster on the Mac with a score of over 360.

As you can see, Chrome is said to have scored more than 360 points this time, a 20% increase from the 300 points of Chrome 99 three months ago. However, since the official did not announce more technical insiders, the details of the performance improvement are still unclear. But as we can see, Safari scored 277 last time, and it can be assumed that Chrome 102, the new version released a few weeks ago, scored 360 this time.

To recap while we await further information, Chrome 99’s performance advantage is due to ThinLTO build optimizations, the V8 Sparkplug compiler, and shorter built-in calls. It remains to be seen what changes lead to the latest boost.
