Google Assistant loses another feature that you may never have used

Usually, the Google developer team works on the introduction of new features for the applications and services of the Mountain View giant but sometimes it can also happen that we witness the removal of some functions and this is what is happening for Google Assistant.

An example is the possibility of setting reminders to be assigned to a specific person within a group (such as, for example, within a family unit), a feature we have already dealt with in recent days.

Google Assistant loses another piece

As it turns out, there’s another feature that the Google Assistant team has decided to remove: we’re referring to the ability to set location-based reminders.

At least this is what emerges from the Google site, where on the page dedicated to reminders we read:

Important: The option to create reminders for a specific location will disappear shortly. You can still create reminders at a certain time and set routines for a location. At the moment it is not clear what is the reason why the Mountain View giant would have decided to remove this feature and his team has not provided further details in this regard.

Recall that the ability to set location-based reminders was introduced in 2018 as a smart solution to avoid forgetting what you want to do when you are in a specific place.

The classic example of use, in fact, is represented by the possibility of setting a reminder to buy milk when you are inside the supermarket (which can be done with some more recent smart displays, such as the second-generation Nest Hub): as soon as the user is near the store, they will receive a specific notification on their smartphone.

At present, it is not known when this functionality (as well as that relating to reminders to be assigned to a specific person) will officially cease to work for everyone but it is likely that behind these changes there is the need to make room for the new Memory feature, whose introduction is expected for over a year.
