Amazon rolls out AR-powered virtual shoe-trying feature in its iOS app

Amazon announced in a blog post that the company will now allow iOS users to virtually try on shoes. Amazon users in the U.S. and Canada can try on shoes from a variety of brands, including New Balance, Adidas and Reebok.

In this virtual try-on, customers simply point the camera at their feet and scroll through the various shoes to see how they look from different angles. However, this tool cannot be used to determine shoe size. While the new feature is currently available for iOS customers with an iPhone 7 or newer, Amazon confirmed in its blog post that it will soon be available for Android customers.

In 2017, Amazon introduced an in-app augmented reality feature that lets customers preview what a piece of furniture would look like in their space. This approach extends to beauty when customers can try on makeup in the app through a partnership with L’Oreal, and an AR feature associated with brick-and-mortar Amazon salons that let customers see hairstyles and hair before the scissors, clippers and curlers get to work How the color looks on them.

Other items in the Amazon app with a try-on or try-on feature include some eyeglasses and t-shirts custom-made by Made for You. Customers in the U.S. and Canada can scan a QR code on Amazon’s website to try a virtual shoe, or search for the term “virtual shoe” within the Amazon iOS app.
