Meta compresses AR/VR project, originally scheduled to launch in 2024

Facebook parent company Meta was originally scheduled to launch the first commercial AR glasses in 2024, but now it seems to intend to abandon this plan, Meta will still launch AR glasses in the future, but the time has changed.

After the plan is adjusted, the glasses code-named Nazare will be used to showcase products, and the software team will provide developer tools to help developers develop apps for Meta glasses.

At present, Meta is developing the second-generation AR glasses, codenamed Artemis, which is the focus. Eventually, Artemis will be released in commercial form, but it is not known when the second-generation product will be ready for the market.

Meta is under pressure to squeeze AR/VR projects as revenue growth slows. During the epidemic, Portal series products have been repositioned as enterprise-grade products, and Meta will not launch consumer-grade Portal devices for the time being.

It was previously rumored that Meta would launch a smartwatch, codenamed Milan, with two cameras, and now that product appears to have been axed. There is also news that Meta will launch two versions of the smartwatch in the next few years, code-named Kyoto and Paris. It is not known if these two watches have also been axed.
