Apple M2 Max specification leaked: 12-core CPU + 38-core GPU is expected to debut this year

During the WWDC 2022 keynote, Apple announced the 2022 MacBook Air/MacBook Pro product line with a new generation of M2 chips. But like the previous generation of the M1 family, many speculate that the Cupertino tech giant will soon release M2 Pro / M2 Max-related revelations.

Previously, Apple has brought the option of M1 Pro/M1 Max to the 14/16-inch Apple Silicon MacBook Pro. The latest report says that the upcoming M2 Max chip will use a 12-core CPU + 38-core GPU design. As for the legendary M2 Pro, no further details are known yet.

The Mac roadmap revealed earlier suggests that Apple has plans to offer a 15-inch MacBook Air, with the M2 Pro/M2 Max also coming later this year. It should be pointed out that the first M2 chip is based on TSMC’s 5nm process, but it is said that more powerful SoCs will use the cutting-edge 3nm process node.

If so, Apple will be able to cram more transistors into its chips, and the power efficiency performance of both SoCs will be improved to some extent. In addition, the M2 Max is expected to utilize more space to accommodate a 12-core CPU + 38-core GPU, while the M1 Max offers a 10-core CPU + 32-core GPU configuration.

At the same time, the previous generation M1 Pro started as an 8-core CPU + 14-core GPU, and a 10-core CPU + 16-core GPU version was optional.
