According to the latest report, the Dutch antitrust watchdog said on Saturday that Apple will allow the use of different payment methods in Dutch dating apps, putting an end to a dispute over the company’s 50 million euro fine. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
With the concession, Apple will meet requirements set by regulators under EU and Dutch competition rules, the Netherlands Authority for Consumer and Markets (AMC) said in a statement.
Apple has long mandated the use of its in-app payment system, known as Apple Pay, which charges a 30 percent commission on transactions made through the system, which some developers, including Tinder Inc., consider high.
In the digital economy, strong companies have a special responsibility to keep markets fair and open, and Apple has avoided this and abused its dominance as a dating app provider,” said Martijn Snoep, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACM “We are delighted that Apple has finally changed the terms to comply with fair competition rules in Europe and the Netherlands. ”
The ACM ruled last year that Apple’s mandatory in-app purchase rules violated competition laws in the dating app market and required Apple to allow developers to use third-party payment systems.
Apple on Friday laid out rules on how developers of a Dutch-provided dating app can skip its in-app payment system, IT House reported. It said dating app developers would still pay a commission on sales outside their in-app payment system but would give them a discount (3%).
