In Kingdom Hearts 4, we may see more characters from the Final Fantasy series games in action. In an interview with IGN, Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the saga, while not making promises written in ink, explained that the development team is trying to find the right balance in this regard.
“I know there weren’t many Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts 3. One thing I want to clarify is that many fans say that Kingdom Hearts is a collaboration between Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters. But why this isn’t the basic concept of Kingdom Hearts; that’s not exactly what Kingdom Hearts is, “Nomura said.
When we released the first title, we only had a few original Kingdom Hearts characters. When interacting with very famous and beloved Disney characters, I felt that no one really knew these new protagonists, so it was even more difficult for them to stand out. And therefore, we got involved. many Final Fantasy characters to help everyone get to know these characters better (in the first Kingdom Hearts).”
“Now, there are so many much loved original Kingdom Hearts characters and people want to see them more often. With Kingdom Hearts 3, since we had so many original characters, it was hard to find space to include other Final Fantasy characters.
To find a good balance for that. I know some fans were worried about it, they weren’t happy and they wanted to see more Final Fantasy characters. It’s something we’re definitely thinking about. But only with the huge number of original characters we have now, it is difficult to say what the exact balance will be and how it will turn out in Kingdom Hearts 4. We cannot give you a certain answer on this matter yet.
From the words of Nomura we, therefore, understand that it is a game of balance, where a greater number of characters from Final Fantasy could steal space from those of Kingdom Hearts and vice versa.
