The future of Pixel Launcher MOD is called Pixel Launcher M

The Google Pixel Launcher is highly regarded for its care, style and cleanliness, but it is exclusive to Made by Google smartphones and this is where the magical world of modding comes into play: Pixel Launcher M is a new app that aims to render those traits peculiarities available to everyone, more or less.

In short, after having talked to you about something similar already in the previous months, let’s go back to the topic: if the user experience has seen at work on Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro has captivated you and modding does not scare you, this is a project that could be right for you.

What is Pixel Launcher M

Pixel Launcher M by #TeamFiles is presented as the successor to Pixel Launcher MOD and described as a launcher for Android devices based on Google Pixel Launcher and other Launcher3 projects. The project was featured on Reddit and, of course, on GitHub.

The developer speaks openly about a launcher designed to replace the device’s system one and to offer users all the functions of the official Google launcher, adding others in the process. The work currently in progress, to tell the truth, is mainly based on the stability of the app and the resolution of youth problems of the same.

In fact, we are talking about a recently born project: Pixel Launcher M has just arrived at version 1.1.0. The changelog of the latest build reports fixes regarding the color of the search bar in the app drawer, changes to the app grid, the change of the official icon and an attempt to fix the installation on devices with Android 13. Here are all the details:

Changelog v1.1.0

  • Fixes related to the app drawer search bar coloring. Again.
  • Some changes to additional grid options. Still needs more work.
  • Stopped using superrepack for the time being, until I can make it safer to use for everyone.
  • Changed the icon again. Hopefully people like this one.
  • Tried to fix the installation on A13, which wasn’t really working right.

Since it is still a rather unripe project, there is of course also an official list of known application problems, which include the failure of the creation of shortcuts in the home, some bugs related to the options of the app grid, the failure to open of the app/website at the top of the weather in smart space, the crash of DT2S.

Installation and clarifications needed

At the beginning of the article, we openly talked about modding and in fact Pixel Launcher M by #TeamFiles is not a launcher for everyone: for the purpose of installation, specific requirements are required ranging from the version of Android on board the device – only the most recent ones are supported – to root permissions with Magisk attached. Here is what is officially expected in relation to the installation requirements:

  • Android version 12.0, 12.1 or 13
  • Root with Magisk in version 20.4+ (required), the recommended version is 24.3+.

The developer announces that a flashable version via recovery will also be made available in a short time.

As for the instructions to follow for installing Pixel Launcher M, here is what is indicated:

  • It is recommended to remove all launchers, as well as Magisk and Xposed modules that interact with launchers on the device; only the system one must remain installed.
  • Pixel Launcher M takes the place of the system launcher
  • It is not possible to install Pixel Launcher M in the presence of other versions of Pixel Launcher, as the modified version makes use of the original package name from Google.
  • Before installing Pixel Launcher M, it is recommended that you install BootloopSaver by HuskyDG and update all apps, especially those from Google, and restart your device.
  • You need to download the .zip file and install it using Magisk.
  • Upon restart, Pixel Launcher M should already be set up.
