Twitter will soon allow users to send long tweets after expanding from 140 to 280 characters

After increasing the number of characters from 140 to 280, Twitter is about to introduce new features that allow users to post long-form content directly. The upcoming feature is said to be called Twitter Note, and users will be able to create articles in rich formats and media such as text, images, and videos, and share them with fans after tweeting.

We understand that the feature is inviting some users to test it ahead of its imminent public release. If widely adopted, Twitter Notes could change the way some people use the social media platform to share their deeper thoughts and ideas.

Today, Twitter users who want to create long tweets are created with a numbered series of tweets, such as (3/6), which means that there are 6 tweets in the series, and this tweet is one of the Article 3 of. As a result of this user activity, Twitter officially embraced threads back in 2017, launching a new Twitter composer screen that makes multiple tweets (or tweetstorms as they are known) easier to create and publish.

But while Twitter threads encourage users to click through to expand related tweets and replies, they can also be a bit difficult to read — especially for longer content. This gives rise to useful bots like the Thread Reader App, which turn these tweet storms into links where individual posts of the thread are formatted as articles for readability. These days, you’ll often see users requesting bot help in thread replies by posting “@threadreaderapp unroll”.
