Tesla tops Made in America 2022 car list

The American automobile website Cars.com released the 2022 “American-Made Index” (AMI) on Tuesday, and the Tesla Model Y ranked first, becoming the model with the most “Made in America” elements. The index ranks cars sold in the U.S. based on how much they contribute to the U.S. economy, based on criteria such as manufacturing locations and parts purchases.

This is the second year in a row that Tesla has topped the list, although last year’s No. 1 vehicle was the Model 3. On this year’s list, the Model 3 came in second. Two other Tesla models, the Model X and Model S, also made the top 10, at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Cars.com’s “Made in America Index” is based on five factors: final assembly location; share of components produced in the U.S. and Canada; country of origin of available engines; country of origin of available transmissions; and share of U.S. manufacturing employees proportion.
