Face Unlock for Google Pixel has surfaced again

Nearby Unlock is a new feature for Google Pixel and Wear OS. The first information on this also makes Pixel 6 users sit up and take notice, who are still waiting for Face Unlock to be available. On the screenshot showing Nearby Unlock, Face Unlock was again mentioned by Google.

But since the feature didn’t come to the devices with the Pixel Feature Drop from June, we’re starting to get in a bad mood. And I believe that it will only be introduced with Android 13. That would probably be the case in September. Until then, no further feature updates can be expected from Google.

Face Unlock: Pixel 6 Pro buyers have been waiting for this feature since the smartphone was launched

The boilerplate of an upcoming Google app, which is again very revealing:

“This can be useful for accessing notifications, your digital assistant, or if your face or fingerprint isn’t recognized.”

Currently, there is no Face Unlock on Google Pixel, except on Generation 4 through the integrated sensors. A new software solution for Face Unlock was actually planned when the Google Pixel 6 Pro was introduced. But the feature never came. Since then, however, it has appeared regularly in source codes and has us users in suspense.

Face Unlock has been a hot topic in the Pixel 6 community for many months

I can pretty much live with the fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6 phones these days. Still, I would like face to unlock as another option. It is still unknown why Google has been preparing the feature for many months and still does not bring it to the devices. It can actually only be that it still misses internal claims.
