Riot Games will monitor players’ voice chats to combat disruptive behavior

Riot Games recently announced that it will start testing the recording and evaluation of in-game voice chat in the “Valorant” game to combat destructive behavior. Riot Games said it recently updated its privacy statement and terms of service to allow officials to record and evaluate in-game voice communications when submitting reports of such behavior.

Starting July 13, Riot Games will start launching this feature in the North American/English-only speech evaluation system to help train AI language models, with a beta release later this year. During this time, voice assessments will not be used for disruptive behavior reports, only starting with a future beta.

Riot Games says this is a brand new technology and there are bound to be all kinds of problems. But the promise of a safer, more inclusive environment for everyone who plays the game is worth it.
