Tesla’s Texas plant can produce 5,000 Model Ys a week

According to reports, people familiar with the matter said today that Tesla has increased production at its Giga Factory in Texas to 5,000 vehicles per week and added a long-range version to the standard Model Y.

The multibillion-dollar Tesla factory in Texas is one of Tesla’s most important projects. In April of this year, the Texas factory officially opened and delivered the first 20 Model Y electric vehicles to employees. Tesla has been keeping secrets about the output of the Texas factory. However, it is expected that the weekly production should be less than 1,000 (Model Y) before.

Boosting production has been difficult for the Texas plant, where the Model Y uses new 4680 cells and structural battery packs, which have been bottlenecks. But since adding the long-range version of the Model Y, Tesla has managed to ramp up production and is now producing thousands of cars a week, people familiar with the matter said today.

Tesla’s Texas plant can now produce as many as 5,000 cars a week, but whether that’s a sustainable rate is unclear, one of the people said. Another person familiar with the matter said that with the addition of the long-range version, Tesla has the ability to produce at least 2,000 Model Ys per week.

However, some buyers were told by Tesla advisers that the Model Y Long Range they bought from the Texas factory had 2170 cells instead of the new 4680 cells. Recently, images captured by drones showed hundreds of cars leaving the Tesla factory in Texas every day. In any case, analysts say it is unbelievable that the Texas plant is producing 2,000 to 5,000 vehicles a week just a few months after it started.

Tesla has previously said the Texas plant could produce 10,000 vehicles a week by the end of the year.
