Chrome browser tests new feature that could improve battery life by 10%

Google Chrome browser is a resource-hungry browser, which not only takes up a lot of memory but is also a test for battery life. Chrome developers must be aware of this issue too, and in the latest Chrome Dev and Canary (versions 105 and above), Google added a new experiment option called ” Quick intensive throttling after loading ” as reported by Chrome Unboxed.

The function is described as:

For pages loaded in the background, activate intensive throttling after 10 seconds instead of the default of 5 minutes. Intensive throttling will limit wakeups, including setTimeout and setInterval tasks with high nesting levels, and delayed scheduler. post-task tasks to 1 per minute.

In official feature expectations, Google wrote:

This feature is expected to extend battery life. Expect about a 10% increase in device battery life when all tabs are hidden and silent.

Google has reimplemented the pre-rendering mechanism in Chrome 103, which significantly improves the loading speed of web pages, reduces resource usage, and increases code complexity.
