With the third beta of iOS 16, Apple also unlocked the new iCloud shared photo library for the first time. This allows you to automatically share either all or only certain photos in a separate media library with others – as has been possible with Google Photos for some time. So you can work together with friends and family on a media library.
You can find the setup in the settings of the Photos app or iCloud. If you then tap on “Configure” you will end up in an assistant that will guide you through the setup and explain again what it is all about.
First of all, you can determine with which people you can work on a media library. You can choose up to 5 people. You will then be asked if you want to automatically share all videos and photos, photos of people or from a specific date, or only manually specific photos and videos. Then you have the chance to get a preview of the media library and you can also invite friends via a link.
Finally, there is another setting in the camera app that lets you share content directly from the camera. Depending on the size, creating the media library can take a few minutes. In the third beta, the creation works, but the invite didn’t work in my case.
