Android Auto has wireless issues, here’s how to fix it

Some reports that have appeared on Google’s support forums in recent days testify that there may be a bug related to Android Auto’s wireless connectivity. According to the comments, the wireless functionality has stopped working for some Android Auto users. Problems of this kind are quite common when using cables and other gimmicks, but in this case, the problem seems to depend on something else.

The latest Android Auto update appears to be compromising wireless for some users

While the root cause is still unclear, the bug appears to occur more often with Android Auto 7.8 claiming to be a potential culprit for the malfunction. Users report that the Wi-Fi issue first occurred not long after updating the Android Auto app on their devices during the early days of July.

People affected by this issue report that the Android Auto screen goes black a few seconds after connecting using the system in its wireless form. The problem appears to mainly occur with cars that have wireless Android Auto built-in, such as Chevy, Volkswagen, and Honda, however, one user also reported random Android Auto disconnects and reconnections.

It is also unclear if this problem has anything to do with wireless adapters for Android Auto, such as AAWireless or Motorola MA1, but at the moment there seem to be only two solutions waiting for Google to publicly acknowledge the problem.

The first is to use a cable if possible, as a user has reported that this is how Android Auto at least works. The other option is to restore a previous version of the Android Auto app, which can be done by installing a previous version or by going to Settings> Apps> Android Auto> Uninstall updates, being careful to suspend automatic updates from the Google Play Store to prevent the reinstallation of the same version.
