PS5, problems with VRR after the latest update: we talk about flickering and burn-in

It seems that the latest PS5 system update has introduced issues with VRR, which on some screens and in some situations could lead to flickering or even burn-in phenomena.

As reported, the PS5 update 22.01-05.50.00.08 adds new features to the console related to the low latency ALLM mode but also affects the yield of the variable refresh rate, which has some drawbacks.

According to the testimonies, it even seems that the problems in question also occur using the new Sony IN ZONE M9 monitor therefore a certified device and fully compatible with PlayStation 5.

It seems that the inconvenience is reproducible by running Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and using the Graphics Quality or Performance RT modes, then playing for a few minutes.

Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any solutions at the moment, although the problem doesn’t necessarily manifest itself on all screens. But let’s imagine that Sony will prepare a hotfix to promptly address this issue.
