Samsung cuts its 2023 foldable phone shipment forecast by 5 million units lower than 2022

It’s been three years since Samsung’s first foldable phone, the original Galaxy Fold, was released. Although it experienced many problems such as broken screens when it was just starting, Samsung has developed into a leading company in foldable mobile phones due to the lack of competitors.

However, SlashGear quoted Korean media The Elec as reporting that Samsung did not have high expectations for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 internally. Samsung has very high expectations for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 to be released next month, with global shipments expected to exceed 15 million units.

However, citing Korean media The Elec, Samsung has internally lowered its expectations for foldable phones in 2023 (that is, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5). According to the report, Samsung’s estimated shipment of foldable phones in 2023 is 10 million units.

If the news is true, that means 5 million fewer units than the estimated 2022 shipments. Of the 10 million units, the report says, 2 million are the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and 8 million are the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The report also mentioned some core specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is reported that the Fold 5 will be equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera (Samsung’s own ISOCELL GN3 sensor) and a 12-megapixel front-facing camera, but other information about the machine is not yet known.
