Google Update: Assistant Driving Mode “Dashboard” shutting down

A few days before, an update said that the maps integration in the Assistant Driving Mode of Google will shut down. Now, Google says, they shut down the Assistant Driving Mode Dashboard which was introduced at I/O 2019. The company said that they shut down the Maps card which appears at the top of the Driving Mode Dashboard. It is also called the homescreen which was released over a year ago.

On November 21, this feature will shut down the entire Assistant Driving Mode Dashboard. This homescreen feature and other features are also included like media suggestions and quick access to audio controls, as well as shortcuts for calling and texting. Usually, using this “Hey Google, launch driving mode.” shortcut for the Driving Mode is very handy. The car-optimized experience in Google Maps for Android, which Google also refers to as Driving Mode, will not change.

This was mostly used at that time when the starting driving navigation features a black bar with access to Assistant and a grid of app icons (seen at the right below) for YouTube Music, Google Podcasts, and other compatible streaming services. With this modification, the company won’t have a direct successor to Android Auto for Phone Screens.

This feature will be removed. It is hard to believe that Google was just removing the Maps card/integration from Driving Mode. Driving Mode was already perceived as a downgrade compared to Android Auto. But some people liked it.

At last, the Company observes that millions of people use Driving Mode daily and sometimes also. It was a very helpful feature for Driving. Th company maybe plan to bring more improve the feature of this.
