Google Home preview version rolled out for all users

A while back, we informed you that the Google Home will soon be receiving an update that will let you view the Nest camera and doorbell feeds on the web. But this update will be for the iOS app.

Google has made a new announcement today for its Google Home. Google Home preview version rolled out for all users. But it will take some time for the final app update to arrive. You’ll be able to request a new Google Home preview through the Google Home app’s settings sometime in the future. This will give you early access to all the new features of the app

Google Home Major Update

New app design with a five-tab layout so you can customize your home the way you want:

  • Favorites: Add devices and actions to this tab for quick access to the things that matter most in your home. This includes the ability to set your compatible cameras as favorites so you can watch your live streams as soon as you launch the app. At the top of the tab, you’ll see a new Spaces view that lets you quickly view and control groups of similar devices like compatible lights, cameras, and thermostats.
  • Devices: Easily find all your compatible devices and check their status.
  • Automation: Create and manage all your household and personal routines in one place. With new launchers, conditions, and actions, you can now easily create and customize home automation that makes your home safer, your life easier, and your day more fun.
  • Activity: Check what happened in and around your home.
  • Settings: Find and manage settings for all your devices, services, and household members.

Updated camera and timeline views (see which cameras are compatible here):

  • Video History Vertical Timeline: Quickly scroll through hours of video history or jump to live view.
  • Event Views: Access a list of events and navigate to a precise time. You can also watch videos in landscape mode on your phone or tablet.
  • Quickly watch live video from your home screen: Watch videos from your Nest cameras and doorbells in one convenient place.
  • Media mini player: See what’s playing in your home with quick access to controls so you can adjust the volume or access the remote control.
