Find my device settings will get a new switch to ‘Store recent location’ and Google News app on tablets gets Material You redesign

Google Find My Device

Back in the December Google Play System Update changelog, the company announced a new Find My Device feature that will allow you to find your offline devices and accessories using encryption and saving data of the most recent location.

Google said that the new feature will be available in the Google Play Services update version 22.50 (dated December 15), but has not yet rolled it out. When you get this feature, you’ll see a new “Store recent location” switch in the Find My Device settings.

In the 5.71 updates, the company began work on a redesign of the app in tablet view. As always, they added a navigation rail with MD3 components. For now, it is only available in landscape orientation.

Meanwhile, the page content is now separated from the header and navigation rail by a container with rounded corners on top. They’ve also updated the shape of the search bar.

What’s noteworthy is that Google continues to implement the navigation rail in landscape orientation on phones, as we’ve already seen in Google TV and Google Drive.

An updated Material You navigation bar was already present in the app last May but it is still not available to end users.
