Google: Personalized search period on smartphones disappears

Google is undeniably a useful search engine, but it only reaches its full potential when you understand how to use it. For instance, if you are looking for results or, more specifically, articles from a specific time period.

This is fairly simple to perform with Google by using the “Set time period” tool, which can be found by going to “Search filter” and then selecting “Any time” from the dropdown menu. At least on the desktop, because, as one irate user discovered on the Google subreddit, she vanished from him.

Google quietly removed “sort by date range” option from it’s search engine

A quick inspection reveals: In reality, this option no longer exists (at least for me) on Google’s mobile site, though I’m fairly certain it did previously. All other search categories, such as the last hour, last 24 hours, last week, last month, or last year, are still available, therefore this decision is illogical.

Another user speculates that it’s most likely an A/B test to evaluate if the feature is needed. Yes, I believe so. After all, it wouldn’t hurt to be able to continue filtering search results by time on your smartphone.
