Google is working on a Power-off finder feature for Android devices

According to Kuba Wojciechowski (via 91Mobiles), the feature will be called Pixel power-off finder, at least on Google phones. A new Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) definition called “hardware.google.bluetooth.power_off_finder” appeared in the source code.

According to the comments on the code, pre-computed Finder Network keys will be loaded onto the device’s Bluetooth chip, which will remain on even when the phone is turned off. Similar functionality has been on the iPhone for some time.

Google has apparently shared the early Android 14 source code with OEMs who participate in the early access program.

However, the feature requires hardware support so that the Bluetooth chip remains active even when the phone is turned off. The Pixel 8 will probably get this feature, but what will happen with the Pixel 6 and 7 remains questionable.
