[U: Fixed] Google Home app redesign disappearing for some users

June 23/2023: Google has acknowledged the occurrence of a bug affecting certain users of the Google Home app. However, the company assures that the bug has been addressed for the majority of users. To ensure the fix is implemented, it is recommended to fully close the app and reopen it. The bug caused some users on the latest version of the app to experience regression, leading to a return to the previous interface. Fortunately, this issue has now been resolved.

June 19/2023: The redesigned version of the Google Home app, which was made available to all users in May following a limited preview, has unexpectedly vanished for a portion of its user base.

Numerous reports on Reddit and Google’s forums highlight a significant number of users experiencing a reversion to the previous design of the Google Home app. This occurrence appears to be linked to the 3.2 release, which was deployed across Android and iOS platforms last week, affecting users on both operating systems.

For those affected by the app’s reversion, a temporary solution involves clearing the app’s data, triggering a brief reappearance of the new user interface. However, this quickly reverts back to the previous design shortly afterward. An underlying similarity in these reports is the involvement of the Public Preview program, with many users stating their participation in this program granted them early access to the new Home app.

According to some users, withdrawing from the program resolves the issue. Fortunately, leaving the program does not entail immediate drawbacks, as even the new Script Editor does not necessitate access to the Preview Program, at least in its web version.

Reverting to the original Home app after experiencing the upgrade can be disheartening, considering the improved user-friendliness and additional features present in the new design. This setback is particularly frustrating for Nest Cam owners, as the upgraded app brings notable enhancements to Google’s latest line of smart home cameras.
