Google introduces a new radar-inspired logo for Find My Device

Google’s practical app, Find My Device, is set to undergo a logo redesign in the upcoming months. The new logo will debut alongside the highly anticipated release of the Find My Device network.

The logo redesign has garnered mixed reactions within Google’s user base. While some users appreciate the consistency and familiarity of the blue, red, yellow, and green color schemes, others are eager for more diversity in Google’s app icons.

Regardless of personal preferences, it is hard to deny the coolness of the redesigned logo. The current green phone-like device on a white/green background will be transformed into a fresh symbol reminiscent of radars and scanning, evoking a sense of excitement.

The enhanced Find My Device network will not only assist in locating misplaced smartphones and tablets but also expand its capabilities to track various other items. By equipping non-internet-connected devices with Bluetooth trackers such as Tile, Chipolo, or Pebblebee, users can make their “dumb” devices discoverable through the Find My Device network.

Erik Kay, VP of Engineering at Google, explains that the new Find My Device network will leverage the vast number of Android devices worldwide, totaling over a billion, to help users find their misplaced belongings, including headphones, tracker tags, and even phones, through Bluetooth proximity. Furthermore, updates to existing Pixel Buds, as well as headphones from Sony and JBL, will soon join the Find My Device ecosystem.

To address concerns about privacy and unwanted tracking, Google and Apple have collaborated on an industry specification initiative. They ensure that location data collected from the network is end-to-end encrypted, preventing Google from accessing or utilizing it for other purposes. Additionally, a new feature will be introduced to the Find My Device network, alerting users about unwanted trackers.

The upcoming logo redesign for Google’s Find My Device app, combined with the expanded capabilities of the Find My Device network and the commitment to user privacy, demonstrates Google’s continuous efforts to enhance user experience and provide a reliable solution for tracking personal belongings.
