Battery drain and connectivity issues reported in some Google Pixel phones after June Feature Drop

Google has recently released its quarterly Feature Drop for Pixel phones, introducing a range of new features such as cinematic wallpapers, enhancements to the Recorder app, and emoji wallpapers. However, like several previous Pixel updates, the latest June 2023 build appears to be causing undesirable battery drain and overheating problems.

Multiple Pixel owners have taken to Reddit to express concerns about excessive battery drain and disruptions in mobile network connectivity following the installation of the June update. The severity of the battery drain is such that some users find it necessary to charge their phones twice daily in order to ensure sufficient battery life until bedtime.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, powered by Tensor chips that are less power efficient compared to Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon SoCs, are further affected by these irregular and significant battery drain issues.

Users have also reported experiencing sudden and frequent signal drops on their Pixel devices. As a temporary solution, restarting the phone at least once daily seems to alleviate these problems to some extent.

Lots of Issues after the June Update?

These battery drain, overheating, and connectivity issues are not unprecedented among Pixel owners. Merely a month ago, a bug within the Google app caused the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 family to overheat and drain excessive battery. Following reports, Google conducted an investigation and promptly released a fix to rectify the bug.

Over the past couple of years, there have been numerous complaints from Pixel 6 users concerning intermittent signal loss, which is further exacerbated by the underperformance of the built-in Exynos modem.

While it should be noted that the battery drain and overheating issues associated with the June 2023 update are not as widespread as some previous bugs, users experiencing decreased battery life on their Pixels may have to exercise patience until Google resolves the matter through a server-side fix or a subsequent update.
