Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 to empower budget smartphones in 2023

Qualcomm, renowned for its exceptional chipsets showcased in flagship Android smartphones this year, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors, demonstrates its commitment to catering to a wider market. Alongside its top-tier chips, Qualcomm also produces processors such as the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Snapdragon, specifically designed for mid-range devices. Now, Qualcomm introduces its latest offering, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 mobile platform, tailored to power lower-end smartphones.

While specific products are yet to be unveiled, it is anticipated that this System-on-Chip (SoC) will be incorporated into forthcoming affordable mobile devices slated for release this year. Despite being classified as a lower-end chip, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 boasts an array of features that significantly enhance the capabilities of upcoming budget-friendly smartphones, positioning it as a promising addition to the esteemed Snapdragon lineup.

Positioned at the bottom tier of Qualcomm’s chip hierarchy, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 series processor aims to deliver essential mobile processing functionalities demanded in 2023. The chipset ensures commendable performance for everyday tasks while supporting a maximum display refresh rate of 120Hz.

Furthermore, the SoC facilitates high-speed internet connectivity through its 5G and Wi-Fi 5 compatibility. Its notable strength lies in its efficiency, promising extended battery life and Quick Charge technology that can recharge a mobile device from 0% to 50% in just 15 minutes. Additionally, the chipset shines in the realm of photography, boasting features such as blur and noise reduction, electronic image stabilization, and leveraging AI capabilities to excel in low-light conditions.

However, it is important to note that Qualcomm exclusively provides this chip to manufacturers, who are responsible for creating captivating and affordable products for consumers. Speculations have emerged suggesting that Xiaomi may launch a handset powered by the new Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, but further confirmation is yet to be revealed. Only time will unveil the full potential of this promising mobile platform.
