Google unveils initial Pixel Fold ‘Felix’ factory images

Google, in line with its release of the much-anticipated Pixel Fold to early adopters this week, has made available the first set of factory images for the device, codenamed ‘Felix.’

Continuing the positive trend witnessed in Google’s smartphone lineup, the Pixel Fold is accompanied by a day-one update, ensuring that early adopters benefit from the latest security enhancements and the features introduced in this month’s Pixel Feature Drop.

Although the shipped Android version is dated February 2023, it includes the June security patch. Consequently, we strongly recommend users promptly update their devices through either the standard system update process or by manually installing the OTA (over-the-air) update.

Factory images of the Pixel Fold serve as a valuable resource for those who prefer to manually sideload Android updates, which often proves faster, or for users who enjoy modifying their device’s software. Moreover, these factory images can prove invaluable in the unlikely event of any software-related issues with your device.

With the aid of a laptop or desktop computer, users can effortlessly install either an OTA or factory image, provided they possess the necessary knowledge. Additionally, Google offers the Android Flash Tool, a web application that streamlines the update installation process and facilitates troubleshooting, although a laptop or desktop computer is still required.

At present, Google has not yet made the Android 14 Beta available to Pixel Fold owners. As the anticipated release of this update draws near in August, it remains uncertain whether Google will offer beta builds for the Pixel Fold.
