Google Photos introduces video effects in editor, now accessible beyond Pixel devices

Google has recently introduced a new feature to the video editor in Google Photos, allowing users to incorporate optical effects into their videos. Previously limited to photos, this enhancement now extends to video content as well. Notably, the feature is not exclusive to Pixel devices, offering compatibility with a broader range of smartphones, including select Samsung models.

To access this feature, users must be subscribed to Google One, the paid subscription service. Upon verifying the eligibility criteria, I discovered the effects on both my Pixel smartphones and current Samsung devices. It is essential to have the latest version of the Google Photos app installed to utilize these effects seamlessly.

Presently, Google provides users with a selection of 12 effects. To apply an effect to your video, navigate to the gallery, select the desired video, and access the editor. Swipe horizontally on the action bar to locate the “Effects” option. It is worth noting that the initial use of these effects may require a brief download period to ensure the effects are available on your device.
