Google Nest Hubs experience issues following overnight update

Google Nest Hubs, known for their automatic nightly reboots and updates, are encountering a problem whereby certain Assistant Smart Displays become stuck on the “Updating” screen, rendering them inoperable.

On an unusual note, Google released an update for the Nest Hub and Hub Max on Friday evening, a timing typically avoided by companies to prevent issues that cannot be promptly resolved by teams over the weekend.

Affected Nest Hub owners are encountering a persistent “Updating” screen that reaches 99%, accompanied by the customary message “Hang tight, this will take a few minutes,” along with the device name in the bottom-right corner.

While power cycling usually resolves such situations, this time, Nest Hubs continue to display the Updating message, indicating a more profound underlying problem. In such cases, reaching out to Google Support is recommended, in the hopes that a software fix can be promptly deployed to impacted devices.

Although a limited number of reports have surfaced regarding this issue, our own devices, operating on both the stable channel (Fuchsia Version 11.20230306.3.134) and the Preview program, have not encountered any difficulties. During the previous major update rollout, the incidence of bricked Nest Hubs was comparatively lower.
