Microsoft delivered Windows 10 21H1 feature updates to commercial customers for pre-release testing

Microsoft has provided Windows 10 21H1 feature updates to commercial customers to “explore and verify features” before it is officially released to the public. Microsoft wrote in today’s announcement: “As previously announced, 21H1 feature updates are being distributed to devices running Windows 10 Version 2004/20H2 through the enablement package. We use the same technology for upgrading from Windows 10 Version 2004 to 20H2.

The new version of Windows 10 is available through Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Azure Marketplace. Commercial customers can also obtain it through ISO files. As for who can download this update, Microsoft wrote:

We determine whether a device is a commercial device, mainly because it does not run Windows 10 Home Edition, and is managed by an IT administrator (whether through Microsoft Endpoint Manager or other third-party MDM tools) and that the device has a volume license key, CommercialID, or join the domain.

In order to make way for Windows 10X, the Windows 10 feature update in the first half of this year did not introduce major feature improvements and additions and shares the same core as last year’s 20H1/20H2. Microsoft explained: “The 20H1 feature has been dormant until the enable package’. The’enable package’ can be regarded as a small, quickly installable caster switch’ that can activate the Windows 10 21H1 feature update function.”
