Google explains the cause of Android app crash in March

After global Android users suffered a wide range of application crashes last month, Google finally disclosed the exact cause of the failure today and gave a certain explanation for the follow-up WebView repair plan. Since many productivity suites, including Gmail, have been affected, the Google Workspace team attributed the problem in the report to “Bugs in the experimental technologies and related configurations of Chrome and WebView.”

The above-mentioned problems can cause “unstable” and repeated crashes in the Android App that renders web content through WebView.

In order to ensure that such problems do not recur, Google said that it will carefully review WebView and related dependencies to improve production readiness’ and improve the testing and launch process of experimental features. After successfully passing the test process, WebView will be restored from the safe mode’ to the state of working well’.

At the same time, Google hopes to speed up the update frequency of the Chrome browser and WebView system components through the Play Store. As a temporary solution, many people chose to uninstall the WebView update last month, and it was recommended by many OEMs.

However, because some apps may lose data due to this, Google has not officially approved this solution. Finally, Google said that it will maintain good communication with all users involved in related issues, and work with partners to discuss how to solve the problem and eliminate the impact.
