Google Assistant new feature Guacamole let you snooze alarms & answer calls without Hey Google

According to the 9to5google, in the past few weeks, the media has been tracking an Assistant feature code named Guacamole in the Google app. Now the media reports that Guacamole can allow users to perform time-sensitive assistant “quick tasks” such as answering calls or mute Android phones, all without the user having to say “Hey Google” first.

At the beginning of March this year, the Google app version 12.8 started to develop Guacamole. The company has been keeping its mouth shut and trying to conceal its true nature. In the next few weeks, development work continued. Today, the settings page (h/t Android Police) is finally online.

It’s worth noting that it only appears in the latest Google app beta (12.5) running Android 11, not the latest 12 developer preview. It appears in the main assistant settings list under Guacamole. The complete menu provides the following descriptions, as well as a toggle to enable “voice shortcuts”.

This feature can now report quick tasks involving alarms, timers, and calls. The alarm ringtone can be set by saying “Stop” or “Snooze”, while “Answer/decline the call” applies to incoming calls. Users can speak these commands naturally without having to say “Hey Google” first. This is similar to the alarm on the Nest Hub, and the user can cancel by simply saying “stop”.

Google is currently testing this feature among employees, which explains the inadvertent leak in today’s settings. However, only Google insiders can access the Assistant menu linked to the internal page in the screenshot above.
