Google is introducing a new feature for the Google Photos service that allows users to hide certain pictures so that they will not appear in the photo library or other applications. This feature is called a locked folder, and it will put any sensitive pictures that you don’t want to share behind the password.
With Locked Folder in @googlephotos, you can add photos to a passcode protected space and they won’t show up as you scroll through Photos or other apps on your phone. Locked Folder is launching first on Google Pixel, and more Android devices throughout the year. #GoogleIO pic.twitter.com/yGNoQ8vLdq

In the Google I/O 2021 demo, Google used an example of parents trying to keep their children buying puppies secret, although this feature is useful for any sensitive pictures you don’t want to share with others.
We’re making it easier to choose the content you look back on. You can prevent photos of certain people or time periods from showing up in Memories in just a few taps. We’re also making it possible to remove a single photo from a Memory, rename it or remove it entirely. pic.twitter.com/eMgiJ3Ywt6

But it’s easy to see the usefulness of this feature from the case: Who didn’t hand his phone to others to show off a picture or two, and then suddenly realized the experience of “I hope they don’t swipe left or right”? The locked folder will help Google Photos users avoid this fear and put any sensitive photos stored on the service out of your main photo profile.
Google said that the feature will be launched on Pixels first, but “in the coming year,” it will appear on more Android phones. Similar functions can already be achieved through third-party applications, and many Samsung users can already use the secure folder feature on some Galaxy phones.
