Samsung may introduce a new gesture control for the Galaxy Z Fold 3

Samsung is expected to release a new Galaxy Z Fold 3 folding screen in July, and news on the Internet has begun to follow. For example, today, LetsGoDigital discovered a patent for foldable electronic equipment that Samsung submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in November 2020.

From the information officially announced to the outside world on May 20, 2021, it can be seen that this patent document describes an interaction scheme with a certain gesture feature that is intended to replace physical buttons.

It is reported that the gesture control system is designed to replace the physical button feature on the mobile device only by sliding or tapping the interface. When the user presses the physical button on the side of the device, the hinge may be damaged due to some external pressure. But by introducing gesture interaction solutions, Samsung hopes to provide a little more protection for the hinge.

Like physical buttons, Samsung also allows users to assign some gesture features to folding screen devices, such as long-pressing the Tab key to shut down, or sliding to adjust the system volume.

Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold is not the only new folding screen that can use gesture interaction. Because last month, Samsung also submitted another patent for the operational design of a folding screen device with virtual buttons for the Galaxy Z Flip.

Even so, we still don’t know whether the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Galaxy Z Flip 3, which is scheduled to arrive this summer, will usher in a new gesture interaction system. But what is certain is that the future Galaxy Z folding screen product line is likely to bring a better operating experience.
