Apple releases macOS Big Sur 11.4 and adds support for Apple Podcasts subscription

Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.4, which is the fourth major update of the macOS Big Sur operating system launched in November 2020. macOS Big Sur was released one month after the release of macOS Big Sur 11.3. This update adds the optimization of the M1 processor and the integration of AirTag.

The new macOS Big Sur 11.4 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs through the software update section of the system preferences interface. macOS Big Sur 11.4 lays the foundation for the two upcoming Apple Music features.

With Dolby Atmos spatial audio and lossless audio, these two functions will be available on the Mac. It also adds support for Apple Podcasts subscriptions and fixes some bugs, as stated in Apple’s release notes:

  • Subscriptions to Apple Podcasts can be purchased through monthly and annual subscriptions.
  • The channel brings together podcast creators’ programs.

This version also fixes the following issues:

  • Bookmarks in Safari may be reordered or moved to a folder that may appear hidden
  • Certain websites may not be displayed correctly after your Mac wakes up from sleep
  • When exporting photos from the photo app, keywords may not be included
  • When searching a PDF document, the preview may become unresponsive.
  • The 16-inch MacBook may become unresponsive when playing Civilization 6.

Apple’s attention will soon be focused on the next version of macOS, macOS 12, which is expected to be released at the Global Developers Conference that opens on June 7.
