Musk: Ocean spaceport Deimos is under construction for launch next year

Musk Tweeted late this week, that SpaceX’s Deimos marine spaceport is under construction and may start launch operations as early as next year. Musk confirmed the news in response to a picture shared by a fan that the launch platform is part of SpaceX’s upcoming Starship rocket system.

The platform will be used as a launch and landing platform for the Starship spacecraft, which is the spacecraft that Musk plans to send to Mars. Earlier this year, SpaceX purchased two oil rigs off the coast of Texas to serve as floating launch pads for the Starship. The two platforms were named “Phobos” and “Phobos” after the moons of Mars.
