Battlefield 2042 only supports the same generation of hosts and cross-platforms, the generation map is smaller

Battlefield 2042 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of this year. As the game will be released across generations, it will naturally raise questions about the difference between the game’s operation on the new and old platforms.

We already know that the XB1/PS4 version of Battlefield 2042 only supports 64 players (PC, XSX/S and PS5 support 128 players). In addition, the map of the previous generation console will be smaller. In a briefing, EA stated that they will ensure that nothing affects the player’s experience of Battlefield 2042.

The main difference between the different generations of consoles is the different map sizes in the game to ensure a smooth game experience on PS4 and XB1. Sacrificing the size of the map in exchange for consistency in the game’s performance seems to be EA’s strategy in this game. Of course, we can’t expect the image quality of the two generations to be the same, because the hardware is different, there will be differences.

EA also made it clear that, apart from the map, there will be no differences in gameplay between different versions of the game. Weapons, vehicles, tools, etc. will remain the same regardless of which platform the player is playing on. Another difference lies in the cross-platform connection. PC, XSX/S, and PS5 players support cross-platform connections. XB1 and PS4 players can only play with players of this generation.

Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 23, landed on PS5, XSX/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Origin).
