OneDrive sync app stops supporting macOS 10.12/10.13

The OneDrive sync application creates a copy in the OneDrive directory of the local disk to synchronize files between the local and the cloud. This is a two-way synchronizer, meaning that changes on either end will be reflected in the local directory and cloud storage. The synchronization user is currently available on macOS and Windows platforms, but today Microsoft announced that the application will stop supporting some older versions of macOS.

Microsoft announced today that the OneDrive sync app will soon stop supporting macOS Sierra 10.12 and macOS High Sierra 10.13. The official stop date is September 10, 2021, which is exactly one month away from now. This change will affect personal and corporate accounts.

Microsoft emphasized that macOS 10.12 and 10.13 have reached the end of Apple’s mainstream support in September 2019 and November 2020, respectively. Therefore, this move will enable it to shift resources and focus to updated and supported operating system versions.

Microsoft said that after September 10, the company will no longer provide software updates for existing clients that do not support macOS versions. Although the OneDrive sync application can still be used, it will not receive subsequent updates, so it is recommended that users upgrade as soon as possible. Also, new installations are not allowed, and any error reports will be ignored.
