Samsung explain why Galaxy Z Flip 3 does not use an under-screen camera

Samsung yesterday released the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. The latter is also the first Samsung smartphone equipped with an under-display camera. The former does not use this technology. Why? Samsung officials gave an explanation for this.

According to Samsung representatives, Galaxy Z Fold 3 has an ideal form factor, which is more suitable for under-screen camera technology, because this phone has been equipped with a standard selfie camera on top of the external display.

The under-screen camera is very good for the immersive experience when watching videos or playing mobile games, and even if it does not provide excellent selfie quality, users can also use an external selfie camera to take selfies. However, the selfie camera of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has to consider the quality of selfies more.

This also shows that Samsung is very clear that the quality of its first-generation under-screen camera is not up to standard. However, it should be pointed out that the back display of Galaxy Z Flip 3 is larger than last year, reaching 1.9 inches.

It is fully qualified as a viewfinder. Users can also use the rear camera to take selfies. Therefore, it can be said that Z Flip 3 is the same as Z Fold 3. Both are suitable for under-screen camera technology.

With this in mind, it is speculated that Samsung will bring the under-screen camera to the Galaxy Z Flip series in the future. Perhaps another reason for not supporting this technology this year is for cost considerations. In any case, for now, the under-screen camera does not seem to be able to replace the standard selfie camera.
