Google Chat now integrates GIF search and insert features

Google acquired Tenor in 2018, which is a GIF platform for PC and mobile. This round of acquisition is to enhance Google’s image service, and now Google announced the integration of Tenor’s GIF search and insertion functions into the Google Chat service. At present, you can directly insert your favorite GIF into the chat in the web-side Chat.

In the compose bar of the chat, you can now see a GIF icon. When you click on it, an enlarged window will appear with a search bar in which you can find the GIF that best expresses what you want in your heart. In addition, you can also select GIFs through the row of different label categories below the search bar. These include Trends as the default label and 14 other topics.

In many cases, inserting a GIF into your message instead of uploading the picture manually is a better choice. Administrators can configure this new feature starting today, and then it will be rolled out to all Chat users from September 15th. This new feature will be turned on for everyone by default, although the administrator can still disable it. GIF lookup and insertion will only be available to Google Workspace customers and G Suite Basic and Business customers.
