Hertz will purchase 100,000 Tesla cars for rent, worth $4.2 billion

Tesla today has double happiness in sales. According to Bloomberg News, car rental giant Hertz has ordered 100,000 Tesla electric cars for its fleet and plans to lease them in major markets in the United States and parts of Europe starting in November.

This will mark the largest electric car order in history and a major move by Hertz in the field of electric car leasing. According to reports, the fleet (seemingly Model 3) has an order value of US$4.2 billion, which accounts for about 1/10 of Tesla’s current annual production. It may shut out other leasing companies besides Hertz. Hertz bought the high-end version instead of the basic version and bought it almost at the original price.

Hertz customers will be able to use Tesla’s supercharging network, and Hertz is said to be building its own charging infrastructure. Eventually, Hertz (and its Dollar, Thrifty and Firefly brands) plans to achieve almost complete electrification of its 500,000 vehicles.

Hertz went bankrupt in 2020 and was acquired by the debt company Knighthead Capital Management (and other companies) for $6 billion in June this year. According to Bloomberg News, after a major turnaround in the market, its current value before the Nasdaq relisting is $11.6 billion.

Previously, according to the automotive analyst JATO, the Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling car in Europe in September, with approximately 24,600 registrations. This is the first time that an electric car has topped the monthly European rankings.
