Microsoft testing a patch to fix Windows 11 right-click menu performance issues

Since the official release on October 5th, there have been some known issues in Windows 11 systems. After repairing AMD’s performance problems and acknowledging the high memory usage caused by Explorer.exe (File Explorer), Windows 11 still has the problem of slowing down the performance of the right-click menu. This error seems to be related to the changes made to the File Explorer and then right-click menu-but the good news is that a fix has been developed and Windows Insider is currently being invited to test it.

In Windows 10 and earlier versions, the right-click menu may be too long, which affects the overall performance of the platform. There are a large number of options in the right-click menu, but most users have never used it, and performance problems may occur because the options in the right-click menu are run from inside the resource manager.

Microsoft has created a new right-click menu experience for Windows 11. The most important or frequently used options now appear as buttons at the top of the menu. However, the new right-click menu of Windows 11 has its own shortcomings, and Microsoft is also aware of the performance degradation.

A user explained the problem of the new right-click menu in the feedback center: “In most cases, there is a 1/2 second delay, but sometimes you can see it starts to open and then flashes because it must be resized to reflect the options”.

Another user feedback: “Opening the right-click menu is very slow, and after it is opened, about half of the items are stuck “loading” for a few seconds. Even the old menu with twice as many menu items, But it can be loaded at least immediately”.

Modern right-click menus work very well on touch devices, but there is a bug that when you right-click anywhere on the desktop or explorer, it will cause a delay. This delay is more obvious when the low-end equipment or system is easy. Some users solve this problem by restarting resource manager.exe.

Fortunately, Microsoft has confirmed that it is making performance improvements for the right-click menu, and Build 22478 includes a change that will improve the startup performance of the right-click menu.
