Call of Duty 18 sets record for the worst starting sales in 14 years in the UK

After Japan, Call of Duty 18: Pioneer also set the record for the worst first-run sales in the UK. According to the physical and digital sales data released by GSD, the sales in the first week of the release of Call of Duty 18″ have fallen by 40% compared to the predecessor Call of Duty 17: Black Ops Cold War.

According to the follow-up data shared by VGC’s own channels, Call of Duty 18: Pioneer is the worst performance of the British debut in 14 years. Only the 2007 game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which started the era of modern warfare, had lower sales in the first week than Call of Duty 18.

But compared to other record-breaking COD games, such as 2010’s Call of Duty 7: Black Ops, Call of Duty 18 sales fell 200% in the first week. Even Call of Duty: Ghosts (+52%) and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (+16%) are much better than Call of Duty 18.

The media believes that the reason for this phenomenon is that it was launched during the transition period of the mainframe hardware, and on the other hand, it is also facing fierce competition between Battlefield 2042 and Halo: Infinite. Of course, Call of Duty also has a very popular free game Call of Duty: War Zone.
