Google launches a new support channel for companies using ChomeOS

At the end of this month, a new phase will open for Chrome OS, one in which the release frequency of new updates will go from six weeks to four weeks but the Google developer team also has other important news for this platform.

In fact, with a post published on the official blog, the US giant announced that it has decided to introduce a new long-term support channel (LTS), which applies feature updates every six months instead of every four weeks, in order to provide administrators with more flexibility.

Google announces the LTS channel for Chrome OS

Devices that are on the LTS channel will continue to receive security updates as they become available and, starting with version M96, users will be able to easily switch between the LTS channel and the 4-week stable release cadence (if they wish) by changing the device channel in the Google Admin console.

The Mountain View giant is keen to point out that the transition to the stable release cadence of 4 weeks is strongly recommended, in order to ensure that users have a more feature-rich experience but recognizes that the LTS channel could have its own usefulness. in some situations, such as an organization that prefers a slower release cycle without compromising security (unattended kiosk devices, healthcare deployments, and online educational platforms).

In addition, the Google team announces that it increases the control possibilities offered to IT administrators, who can now add Chrome extensions and apps to specific versions, hosting them themselves or configuring them from the Chrome Webstore, as well as setting a minimum version of the operating system and blocking the device and user sessions on devices that do not meet this minimum version of the OS.
