Google has revamped the Gmail widget with a Material You look and buttons that let you archive email. The widget also supports dynamic colors and takes over the shades of your background. In addition, it changes its appearance as you adjust the size.
Google treats Gmail users to a new widget in a Material You jacket. Material You is the new look of Android since Android 12 and all widgets of Google services are therefore undergoing a makeover. This time it’s the Gmail widget’s turn, but Google goes beyond appearances, 9To5Google knows.
The Gmail widget will also become a lot more functional at the same time, with the buttons that allow you to archive an email in one fell swoop. It is also cleverly considered that the complete first sentence is no longer displayed with an e-mail so that more e-mails can be seen under each other. So you can quickly see at a glance what is relevant and what is not.

The shortcuts are also new. If the widget is narrow, only a pencil icon will be visible with which you can compose an email. Take up the full width of the Gmail widget and you’ll see icons that allow you to quickly switch to ‘Chat’, ‘Spaces’ and ‘Meeting’. The icons can be seen to the right of your mailing list and that view is immediately reminiscent of the new Keep widget. If you also let the widget take up more space vertically, those icons will move to the bottom.
Availability
The new widget is part of version 2021.10.31 of Gmail and that update is currently rolling out on the Google Play Store. If you don’t have this version yet, the update is expected soon. The update is not yet available at the time of writing. You need a phone with Android 12 for the dynamic colors of the widget. These are all brands of phones that will support this.
