In WhatsApp, you will soon be able to respond to messages with emoji, just like in other messaging apps such as Google Messages and Messenger. The feature has been in development for iOS for several months now, but now developers are working on the feature for the Android app as well. It is only now becoming clear how exactly the function will work.
The information was discovered in the code of beta version 2.21.24.8, WABetaInfo reports. WhatsApp isn’t just going to let you respond to messages with emoji, but users will also get control over the function. The function can also be turned off per individual chat or in each group conversation.

It is still not clear whether you will be able to respond with every available emoji as in Messenger. An app like Google Messages only lets you choose from a small selection of seven different emojis. Still waiting for a first screenshot of the emoji selection interface.
Availability
At the moment, the emoji reactions are still in development and are not yet available to beta users. It is not yet known when the feature will be rolled out. WhatsApp previously launched an editing function that allows you to create group images based on emoji and stickers. The new batch of emojis from 2021 have also already been added.
